New Zealand South Island 19 days - Flight

Inspired to start a blog documenting my travels after my trip to New Zealand. I Googled alot for information (from immigration to weather to sightseeing) before my trip and thought I should give back to the world wide web with knowledge I now have!

Plus, those were some pretty amazing 19 days and I really want to document them.

Lets start with some basics that most Singaporeans probably Google about when planning a trip to New Zealand.

Flight: we took New Zealand airlines from Singapore to Auckland then to Christchurch. It cost us about $1010 each. Here's what to note about transiting at Auckland. You MUST check out your baggage at Auckland, pass through immigration and the biosecurity check then check it in again for the flight to Christchurch. You will have the boarding passes for both flights when checking in at Singapore so at Auckland you just need to drop your bag off.

If you have 1 hr till your flight departure at Auckland, you will be able to drop it off at the International terminal right after immigration. If you have less than an hour, you will be asked to bring your luggage with you to the domestic terminal and drop it off there.

The international and domestic terminals at Auckland are a 5min shuttle bus ride (free, comes every 15min) or a "10min" walk away.

Protip: 10min is what the airport info and staff said. But with our luggage we took about 20min. It was further than we expected but not impossible. Follow the green line and signs.

The return flight however, would have your baggage checked right through to Singapore. So no worries about dragging it. However, you will only have your boarding pass for Christchurch to Auckland. So when you arrive at Auckland, you'd have to head to the Air New Zealand counter at the International terminal and get the boarding pass for Auckland to Singapore.

Protips:

  • Domestic flights allows for liquid on board.
  • Try to allow for at least 2 hours transit, especially on the flight into NZ. We had 1.5 hours and although not impossible, was quite a mad rush. We were also lucky that there wasn't a very long queue at immigration and the bio security check.
I'll write more on the immigration and bio security check in the next post! Leave a comment if you've any questions on the flights! 😊
